Sphere 3.1 - Private Messaging

Private Messaging

Sphere provides for private messages to be exchanged with other Sphere users.These messages are between private addresses ( z addresses ). The contents of the messages are not visible on any blockchain, due to the use of zk-SNARK technology.

Messaging Fees

These messages are very small transactions that carry a text message. Each message requires that you spend 0.00010001 ZEN. This tiny amount of ZEN is deducted from the 

To assure that there is no evidence on the blockchain of a private message, you should create a private address for the messaging fees. 

See Figure 1.

Fund it with a small amount of ZEN. There must be a sufficient balance in this address to send private messages.

Set the Default Address for Message Fees to your new Messaging Fees address.

Start a private conversation

Private messages occur between two Sphere users. Click the Messages icon and create a Contact, The Contact is a pair between yourself and your Conversation partner.

Generating a conversation key

Add A Display Name that identifies you in the Conversation, Generate a Conservation Key.

Partner's Conversation Key

When you receive your partner's Conversation Key, paste it into your app to complete the messaging setup.

Inside the conversation window

Your conversation appears with your partner's messages in blue and yours in grey.
There is a delay as messages as confirmed. Remember, the messages have to be confirmed by miners just like any other transaction.
Conversations are between two individuals.

Deleting A Conversation

Delete a conversation by clicking on the Trash icon in the upper right hand corner. Confirm by clicking the Delete button. A deleted conversation cannot be retrieved.

Recovering Contacts and Conversations

Neither Contacts nor Private Messages are NOT recoverable from the 24 word Backup Phrase, as that data is not stored on the blockchain.
